:)

because I was impatient, I guess. I really wanted to get in. No regrets at all though, I think the full time format worked great for me.

What a story, uh!?;)

>BCIT turned me away..

Why not to take evening classes? 12 credits of evening classes is considered "full-time". It would also lead to diploma or degree.

Good post. You're right that a person should at least have a modest liking of databases to be an effective database professional - you <em>can</em> do the job and still hate it, but you won't have that natural curiosity to learn all you can about your trade if it's just a job.

Apart from that, if someone doesn't enjoy their career (whatever it is), there's probably something that they're better at. Life's too short to spend 1/3 of it doing something you hate.

NIce Scripts. But how to disconnect all users before the restore process ? I am getting restore failure because of existing connections to the database.

it might be a refresh issue .. perhaps your instance was restarted some time a week after, and when it tries to restart the services, it cannot anymore because the username/password is no longer valid. it could be a possible scenario..

Thanks for the post. My first error message was "Cannot generate SSPI context" when trying to connect using Windows Authentication. Connecting via SQL Server Authentication worked. Rebooting the server then gave the “A network-related or instance-specific error ...." Scenario #2 stuck out and I checked the services, they weren't running. Then I remembered a week earlier an administrator had been terminated and the Administrator password changed. Why it took AD a week to cause the first error with Windows Authentication is what I do not understand.
